Overview: Wild thyme, which is native to the northern coast of the Mediterranean, has more than 300 species after spreading to all parts of Europe. Although thyme essential oil is extracted from the same genus, it is due to different growing places. It is divided into about 3 types, thymol thyme, which means thymol is the main one, which is the most common one; linalool thyme, which contains the most linalool, is the mildest and non-irritating; thujaol thyme, which is mainly thujaol, has the highest antiviral effect.
It is about 30 cm tall, with dark gray-green spiral leaves, which can emit a strong fragrance and bloom small white or purple-blue flowers. From the name of thyme, you can understand that this plant wins with its fragrance. Some of them will emit lemon, orange and fennel flavors; some will emit a deep and subtle fragrance, which is suitable for planting in the courtyard; and the strongest smell is the thyme grown in Spain. It likes warm and humid places, so although thyme can be seen in Iceland, it is not as fragrant as plants on the Mediterranean coast such as North Africa and Spain.
Thyme essential oil will undergo some changes during the distillation process, so some countries use metal containers to distill thyme, which will undergo an oxidation process, so some essential oils will appear red; but modern distilleries will sell it after purification, and the color will become light yellow, so the color of the linalool thyme essential oil that can be seen in the market is mostly light yellow.
